Reminders Before Cutting Your Hair

Thank you for considering donating your hair to help create wigs for individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions. Before you cut your hair, please review these important guidelines to ensure your donation can be used effectively.

Hair Donation Requirements

• Length: Hair must be at least 8 inches (20 cm) long, measured from where it will be cut to the ends. Longer donations (12+ inches) are especially valuable.
• Condition: Hair must be clean, dry, and in good condition. We cannot accept hair that is damaged, brittle, or excessively split.
• Hair Type: We accept all hair types, textures, and colors. Natural hair is preferred, but dyed hair in good condition is acceptable.
• Restrictions: We cannot accept hair that has been bleached, permanently colored, or chemically treated (perms, relaxers, etc.). Gray hair is accepted.

Before Your Haircut

1. Find a salon: Consider visiting a salon that participates in hair donation programs. Many stylists are familiar with the proper cutting and bundling techniques.
2. Prepare your hair: Wash and dry your hair thoroughly. Do not use conditioner, styling products, or oils before cutting.
3. Secure your hair: Tie your hair into ponytails or braids before cutting. Use multiple elastics spaced about 1 inch apart if your hair is very long.
4. Take before and after photos: We love to see your transformation! Consider taking photos to document your generous donation.

Cutting Instructions

1. Ensure hair is clean, dry, and free of styling products.
2. Divide hair into multiple ponytails or braids for easier cutting and to maximize donation.
3. Secure each section with an elastic band at the top where you'll cut and at the bottom to keep the hair together.
4. Cut above the top elastic band.
5. Place the cut ponytails in a clean, sealable plastic bag.
